- Memorabilia Sophomorum, Edited and Published by the Freshman Class of the College of New Jersey, Princeton, New Jersey, June, 1858.

Princeton, NJ, 1958. 1958. - Octavo, 9-1/8 inches high by 5-3/4 inches wide. Softcover, bound in printed creamy white wrappers. The covers are stained, darkened and creased with a piece out from the tail of the spine. 68 pages. Good. A satirical publication by the Freshman class of the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University, with humorous contributions by unidentified students. Contributions include poems, soliloquies, essays, theatrical scenes playfully poking fun at themselves, classes, professors and academia. The poem, "Characteristics of Sophomores" includes such lines as "..But be content the Sophomores' faults to note / Those of the boy, those of the gray-haired dote: / A class, in part, of boys just from the breast, / The patriarchs and clowns compose the rest.." followed by stanzas addressing specific students by name. A theatrical scene is titled "Chesterfield Jones and his Pa-Pa". An essay addresses "Warren and His Coat", another "Billr Udder and His Position, alias Helm and His Grades", and yet more such as "A Second Paga (ninny)". Even the few pages of "Advertisement" touch on satire as does the Book Review of "The Poetical Works of Raving Mad Cadwalader" proclaiming that "His 'complete Works' comprise two quarto volumes, beautifully gilt, and well worth a place in any nursery library. The style is most pathetic and entertaining.." RARE in commerce. Good .
